This type of software operation has normally been delegated to system administrators at large ISP's.
Mailbox Filter is not a paid service nor does it require pre-filtering of messages on some other computer. Mailbox Filter installs right on the users computer and acts as an email firewall for the user. Installation is easy and everything is written in plain English.
Mailbox Filter works on a positive acceptance model as opposed to a negative rejection approach. Services such as Brightmail write an average of 1000 rules a day to block unwanted messages. This is cumbersome and mildly effective. Mailbox Filter allows the user to decide who gets into their system through the use of an Authorized list and other features. This positive approach eliminates the need to use a pre-filtering service like the one mentioned above.
Orientation: How Mailbox Filter Works
Mailbox Filter collects, sorts and delivers your email to one of four in-baskets. Four lists are maintained which tell Mailbox Filter which email to accept, reject or preview. They are the Authorized List, Banned Address List, Keyword List and Email Address List.
When an email arrives, Mailbox Filter puts it through a junk mail test, then checks your lists (Authorized, Banned, Keyword and email Addresses) to determine if you Authorized or Banned the sender. Then it checks if Keywords are being used.
When an email address is not in your Authorized list or Keyword list and fails the junk email test, it's placed in the junk mail box. Likewise, if an email address is in your Authorized list, it gets sent to your Authorized mailbox.
When someone sends an email with a Keyword you gave to them, Mailbox Filter will detect this and send the email to your Keyword mailbox. If someone, who is not in your Authorized list, sends an email directly TO you and it passes the junk email test, then it is sent to the Unknown mailbox.
All of your mailboxes are accessed from the Control Center. You use your Mailbox Profile to control the initial accept, reject, forward or store disposition of your messages in each mailbox. You can then change the disposition of any message directly from the Control Center.
After you have setup Authorized Addresses and Banned Addresses and Optional Keywords and your basic email account information, you may begin to filter your email or customize the initial mailbox control settings in your Profile. This is also accessible from the Control Center.
At the core of virus protection is Mailbox Filters Attachment Neutralizing. By adding a file name at the end of an attachment file it becomes harmless. This keeps attachments from automatically opening and doing damage.
Mailbox Filter has a built in knowledge base. This is an HTML formatted "How To" system completely indexed with all instructions in hyperlinks for quick and easy access to any instruction on all functions of the program.
